2. DEVELOPMENT IN GRIMSBY

Hot topic for this election...

What’s the issue?

Development is coming whether we like every project or not.

The real question is whether Grimsby is going to grow intelligently or spend the next twenty years trying to catch up.

You cannot keep adding homes and density and then act surprised when the roads, parking, water, emergency services, and neighbourhoods feel the pressure.

Can Council do anything?

Yes. But Council cannot do everything.

The Province sets a lot of the rules municipalities have to work under.

That doesn’t mean Council just throws its hands up.

We still have planning, zoning, infrastructure, transportation, servicing, and the ability to ask much harder questions before decisions are made.

What next?

I want development considered as part of the whole town.

Not:

Here is a building. Should we approve it?

But:

What does this building do to everything around it?

Roads.

Parking.

Water.

Fire protection.

Schools.

Neighbourhoods.

Future development.

Plan first. React less.
